8 out of 10 Lump in Breast are not Cancer

Not all lumps in breast are cancer, a disease that each year an average of 200 thousand experienced by women and 1,700 men across the globe.

"No need to panic. 8 out of 10 lumps found in the breast area is not a cancer," said dr. Setia Saptadi Basuki, Sp.B.Onk of Indonesian Cancer Foundation.

The best time is a self-breast examination a week after menstruation. If you're not menstruating, designate one day a month to do a breast exam.


In Visual inspection can be done by examining breasts with arms at your sides. Raise both arms high above his head, searching and note any changes in contour of each breast, swelling, lumps, or abnormalities of the nipple. Then, place your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex chest muscles.

"Remember, the shape of the left and right breasts will not exactly match, although there are women who have breasts that really similar," said Saptadi.


Examination can be done while standing upright with breast pressing firmly with fingertips to feel the internal structure of the breast. Check the right breast with his left hand, and vice versa. Also check the lymph nodes (axilla) in the armpit. If you find a lump or thickening in the breast that are not only, then contact your doctor.
